skin

wandering-vagabond:

Skin is an interesting organism, it can be warm, cold, punctured, burned, scraped, frozen, it’s also nearly waterproof and one of the most impervious living materials on earth. We are wrapped in it, our organs are incased in it, we embody it. I find this extremely interesting, and i’m not sure why. The thought sort of blindsided me on this idle tuesday while boiling water for my evening tea. As the water boiled, I felt this burning sensation on my shoulder, when I looked down I saw the raw red road-rashed flesh, the pink tones so vibrinte, the blood vessels broken, and my thoughts were suddenly overwelmed with this idea of skin. When I die, while sitting at the feet of our Lord, I will ask the all knowning, why did He give man skin and not scales?

So I’d like to state my opinion on the whole skin vs. scales thing:

When you pick up a fish it feels cold and it’s not usually the most pleasant feeling. Scales act as a protective armor, yet loving someone, and being loved, is making yourself vulnerable and opening yourself up. We are supposed to love our neighbors and even our enemies. If you are meeting someone in peace and love, you do not usually wear armor to protect yourself. You meet your friends with arms wide open, ready to receive them with a hug. You make yourself open to attack and vulnerable. That’s what true love is. If you are always afraid and protecting yourself against being hurt, you’ll never experience it. I believe that this is why God gave us skin instead of scales.

Sidenote: We learn best through pain and consequences.
